THE PHOENIX AGAIN FOUND AT ETSA PARK
The October gathering of indoor flyers at ETSA Park Netball Stadium, again found us able to pay the rent, with a small surplus going to The Southern Soaring League, as has always been the practice with this branch of our sport, dating back to the days when we were in the hands of The Late and great Leo O’Reilly.
Three visitors took advantage of our policy of “No fly – no pay” situation by placing themselves in one of the spectators advantage points within this delightful building. I found difficulty in naming them, as a group. They did not have a camel on a lead so could hardly be termed “The Three Wise Men?” Furthermore, they did not indulge in taking turns to cover their mouth, ears or eyes, so could not even be said to be wise monkeys with a number of three. As one was bald, not featuring straight hair combed down over his eyes, they could not even be titled “The Three Stooges – they shall remain nameless dear friends. They were aided and abetted by their little boundary rider who placed himself in the pilots area, flitting around like a Will O’ The Wisp, radioing his reports back to his masters by virtue of his Dick Tracey type wrist radio. The Phoenix can only hope that their visit was fruitful, even though disguised by their happy go lucky outlook which, as they stated, had been fuelled by several glasses of red wine. Tut! Tut! 
We hope to see them again shortly, possibly with model in hand.
For a short moment, many could be forgiven for believing that Justin Galbraith, the “Smoothe One,” had returned from his temporary posting to Iraq. An immaculate Ikarus Shock Flyer, similar to Justin’s model and featuring many coloured lights and being flown with a great deal of skill, was visible. Inquiries made during the time that Mike O’Reilly was photographing the new comer, disclosed that he was Simon Butterworth, also, I believe, a member of the RAAF and a gentleman who actually works with Justin. Hence the similar aircraft and his obvious skills. Welcome to our gathering Simon. I do not know if Justin looks in on our stories in Model Flight’s Web Page, but if so, he will no doubt, be pleased to read that the enormous hole that he left in our Thursday nights, is being quite competently filled by his fellow work mate.
 Another of Michael’s photos, the Phoenix having left his camera at home, shows yet another beautifully constructed model of Jurgen Schneider’s. This is a foamie of which the Red Baron would have been justifiably pleased. The Tri-plane, in Jurgen’s skilful hands gave several flying demonstrations that were very pleasing to the eye.
 The third of Mike’s pickies, shows a nameless character who was enjoying the flying ability of the tiny Cessna Citation – four of which were flying on this night, some being picked up on E-Bay and others from one of our leading hobby shops but each being landed in the hands of the pilot for around $185-00. 
With Christmas approaching rapidly, one must realize that, apart from the little Cessna, there are several models of a similar ilk (what does that mean? It looks like part of an ingredient that some people have with their Scotch?) that will be appearing in Hobby Shops in time to take place in your stockings. Ouch! Makes walking difficult.
We will have fellowship once again, dear friends, on November 15 when I shall enjoy the pleasure of your company at the ETSA Park Netball Stadium where flying, which will only cost you ten dollars, will be conducted from 8.30 p.m. through to 10.30 p.m. BUT – if you only come to watch this exciting branch of our sport, you are admitted to the stadium free of charge. There is no Christmas break, for this pleasurable time will be repeated on December 20th. I leave you with a thought, dear readers. If four out of five people suffer from diarrhoea, does that mean that the fifth person actually enjoys it??
