JR XP662 Overview JR's next generation 6-channel system is loaded with features and surprisingly affordable. Like the XP652, the new XP662 can be used with either sport-level airplanes or helicopters. This ability alone continues to set the JR 6-series of systems apart from other 6-channel sport systems in its class. Other functions that modelers will recognize from the 652 include DSC (Direct Servo Control), dual rates, exponential, programmable mixes, and 3-character model naming. The 662 also retains the 652's super simple programming logic that divides software functions into two basic modes: System Setup and Function. System Setup Mode allows the modeler to: - Select model type (air or heli)
- Reset default values
- Make switch assignments
- Select wing mixing (normal, delta, flapperon or V-tail)
- Select one of six stored models for that model type (air or heli)
- Change model names
- Select modulation (PPM [which is FM], Z-PCM, or S-PCM)
Function Mode allows the modeler to adjust programming functions for a specific model, such as: - Servo reversing
- Dual rates
- Exponential
- Sub-trims
- Travel adjust
- Aileron, rudder, and elevator mixing (air)
- CCPM mixing (heli)
- 3-point throttle and pitch curves (heli)
Expanded Capabilities | | Like its predecessor, the 662 offers all sorts of programming features, such as sub-trim, travel adjust, and CCPM mixing. |
The XP662 builds on the success of its predecessor, the XP652, by adding the advantage of digital trims, as well as an easier programming interface. The trims are the auto-memory type that don't require anything but the movement of the trim switch to store the new settings in memory. Pressing the Throttle Kill button shuts down a model's engine quickly by over traveling the throttle trim. After using the kill button, simply bumping the throttle trim switch up once will automatically return the trim setting to where it was before shut down. Replacing the flush-mounted programming buttons are ultra-intuitive rocker switches that are positioned within easy reach of the thumbs. These allow programming functions to be accessed more quickly. The left switch controls menu navigation and channel selection. The right switch increases and decreases the values within each menu item. While the XP662's software is essentially the same as the 652, JR has expanded its capabilities by upping the available model storage from five to six models for each model type. Independent trim settings for each heli flight mode have also been added. Unbeatable Value Of all the features JR has incorporated into the new XP662, the one were sure modelers will find most appealing, if not astonishing, is its affordability. For about the same price as most other 6-channel systems that only offer one model type and fewer features, a modeler of rather modest means could easily outfit themselves with a XP662.
