Charging LiPo Batteries
The NEW TrakPower V-Balance safety and conditioning
device shown connected here to the TrakPower 4900 pack.
This revolutionary safety device contains the rules for
safe-handling of LiPo packs in its software. When
connected between charger and battery, the V-Balance
monitors the condition of both cells in the 2s LiPo pack
(and up to 6s LiPo for future-proofing) and will
disconnect the charger if any one cell is in danger of
going over-voltage or under-voltage. Additional
functions such as the Fuel Gauge show the approximate
state of charge of the whole pack (and each cell on
pressing the mode/reset button). The V-Balance also
equalizes the state of charge of the two cells either
passively or during charging.
About TrakPowerCycle life estimates are halved if fast charging always deployed: recommend a mix of standard and fast charging as the need/opportunity arises. Warranty: In the absence of abuse is 3 months.
WARNING: TrakPower Lithium Polymer has a far greater energy potential than traditional battery technologies used in RC. Treat Lithium Polymer battery technology as FLAMMABLE SOLID FUEL. ALWAYS use a LiPo charger set to 2-Cell / 7.4V LiPo for this 2s1p pack. NiCd/NiMH "delta peak" chargers are COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE for LiPo technology and WILL cause a fire. Failure to observe maximum and minimum ratings and the warnings stated here and on the reverse of each pack will achieve NO PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGE, will VOID WARRANTY, and wil lead to UNSAFE OPERATING CONDITIONS. Practices such as pre-race Peaking and Zapping are unnecessary and must be strictly prohibited for LiPo Technology owing to their immediate danger in the context of LiPo chemistry.
Tip: The only performance enhancing practices recommended and authorized by TrakPower are as follows: Pre-race warming to 30-40 degrees Centigrade. Cell balancing (the practice of ensuring that each cell in the pack is balanced to identical charge voltage). While balancing is always good practice with LiPo Technology, in the absence of very cold temperatures 10 degrees C and below, most users will observe that warming is unnecessary because the pack will always be able to deliver more power than any other component in the drive train can draw from it.
